Dr.D.Rathnamma, Director, Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals, Bengaluru is a graduate of Veterinary college, UAS, Bengaluru in the year 1992. She obtained her Masters and Ph.D degree in the discipline of Veterinary Microbiology from Veterinary College, Hebbal, Bengaluru. She joined the service at Veterinary College, UAS, Bengaluru in the year 1995 and worked at Dept of Poultry Science and Dept of Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary College, Bengaluru for more than 30 years. She has served as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor and Senior Professor of Veterinary Microbiology. She has served as Professor and Head of the Dept of Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary College, Bengaluru for 17 years. She has completed several external funded research projects of ICAR, DBT, DST, Govt of Karnataka and Private Agencies.
She has guided 13 Ph.D and 15 MVSc students of Veterinary Microbiology. She has published over 150 research papers and eight review articles in National and International journals, 155 research abstracts published / presented in various national and international conferences. Two patents have been granted (Development of Real time PCR based Antigen detection kit for Diagnosis of Bovine Herpes Virus-1; Development of biofilm based vaccine against Bovine mastitis). She is the recipient of “Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam Life Time Achievement National Award” -2022 in the field of ‘Teaching, Research and Publications’ by International Institute of Social and Economic Reforms®, Bengaluru. “Bharat Gaurav Puraskar” and “Certificate of Excellence” from KTK Outstanding Achievers and Education Foundation, New Delhi for Outstanding Achievements and Remarkable contribution in the field of Veterinary and Animal Sciences’. “Distinguished Woman Researcher in Veterinary Microbiology” for the contribution and achievement in the discipline of Veterinary and Animal Sciences’ from Venus International Foundation, Centre for Women Development, Chennai.
