About Shri Bahurao Deshpande Veterinary College, Athani

Shri. Bahurao Deshpande Veterinary College Athani was sanctioned in the year 2010 by Government of Karnataka and is a constituent college of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar. It is the first and only Rural Veterinary College in the state of Karnataka. The College was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri. Siddaramaiah on 11 th August 2023. The campus is spread over 211 acres of land and is located at Kokatnur Village at 18Kms from Athani of Belagavi District. Athani is among the remotest taluks in the state, situated at 150 km from the district headquarters of Belagavi, around 60 km from Sangli, 75 km from Vijayapura and 125 km from Bagalkot. The campus is situated at the belts of Krishna River that inhabit prominent breeds like Krishna Valley cattle andYalaga Sheep. The Campus has an elegant main building housing various departments, administrative offices, and classrooms;Veterinary clinical complexwith various clinical departments; Separate Boys and Girls Hostel; Library Building, Staff Quarters, ILFC Block, Post-mortem Building, agriculture land, animal houses etc. The government Veterinary CollegeAthani is the second farm sciences institution in Belagavi district, after the government Horticulture College in Arabhavi. The institution aims at catering to the needs of rural communities in the region, producing quality veterinarians and creating employment opportunities to rural youth.
