Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology
The department of pharmacology was established from the Academic year: 1960-1961. The department was renamed as Veterinary Pharmacology &Toxicology with the introduction of MSVE regulation as per veterinary council of India during the year: 1998.
At present the Department imparts teaching (4+1Cr.hr.) in Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology for undergraduate students as per the MSVE regulation - 2016 of veterinary council of India (VCI). The Master’s and Doctoral degree programmes in the subject have been instituted from the A.Y: 1973-1974 and 1989-1990 respectively. The department has small animal facility registered with CPCSEA, New Delhi and provides experimental animals to postgraduate students and scientific establishments.
The post graduate alumni’s of the department have successfully occupied several important positions in academic, research institutions and pharmaceutical organizations in India as well as abroad. Currently, the Department is headed by Dr. Pavithra, B. H as Assistant Professor & Head with 2 Assistant Professors namely, Dr. Santhosh, C. R. and Dr. Rashmi, R.
Services
- Consultancy services to Veterinary Officers of the State Government regarding diagnosis of toxicities in animals and treatment protocol for such toxicities.
- Providing technical information regarding various drugs to Veterinary Officers of the State Government
- Acting as resource persons in KVC sponsored CVE training programs to Veterinary Officers of the State Government
- Serving as member secretary of Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC).
Facilities
- Analytical laboratory to quantify the drugs using instruments: Spectrophotometer, HPLC, GC and HPTLC.
- RIA laboratory in the Department was established under the license of Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BARC, Govt of India) to quantify hormones.
- Facilities to conduct pharmacological and toxicological studies of drugs in laboratory animals.
