Department of Livestock Production and Management
The Department of Livestock Production and Management came into existence in 1993 after implementation of VCI Syllabus. The Department is currently offering 2 UG courses, 12 M.V.Sc courses of LPM, 2 M.V.Sc courses of Wildlife and 7 Ph.D courses. The Department is handling extramural research projects funded by National and International agencies. The Department has an MOU with Alltech, USA, on “Feed and Fodder Evaluation and Development of Cost Effective Feeding Strategies to Increase Ruminant Production and Reduce Environmental Impact”. Animal Welfare Research Centre supported by Common Wealth Veterinary Association has been established in the Department of LPM in 2018. The Department has a well equipped laboratory for PG research and Fodder Museum for the benefit of students and farmers. The Department is involved in various extension activities comprising training for farmers and extension workers in collaboration with co-operatives, NGOs and other Government organizations.
Services offered :
- Analysis of field samples (feeds and fodder) for digestibility
- Supply of fodder root slips to farmers at nominal price
- Technical guidance to farmers on different farming systems, fodder production, etc.
