Department of Animal Nutrition
The Department of Animal Nutrition offers courses in Animal Nutrition for undergraduate students and Post Graduate programmes (M.V.Sc. and Ph.D.). The department has facilities to carry out research in dairy cattle, small ruminants and monogastric species. Over the last 40 years, the department has taken up research projects covering areas of basic and applied aspects of animal nutrition. Research topics include: suitability of ARC and NRC recommendation for Indian dairy cattle, evaluation of ruminant feedstuffs based on “Partitioning factor” and microbial biomass synthesis, evaluation of unconventional feed resources for livestock feeding and feed technology for improved feed utilization and optimize productivity. Validation of NRC recommendations of energy for dogs. The Animal Nutrition Department is also involved in application of scientific research and knowledge about animal nutrition through farmer extension education
