ANIMAL GENETICS AND BREEDING

The Department is located in the main building of the college. The Department has well equipped laboratories for undergraduate and post graduate students, class rooms with spacious rooms for the staff. There is a separate computer laboratory which is well equipped with around 22 systems for the students and is also having the facility of LCD projector for conducting various presentations in the department. There is a research laboratory with advanced equipment’s like PCR machine, vertical and horizontal gel electrophoresis, incubator and centrifuge for carrying out molecular genetics and Cytogenetic researches. The department is also entrusted with maintaining MalnadGidda Research and Information Centre which is an exclusive facility for conserving and breed recording of the MalnadGidda breed of cattle. It also serves as a demonstration unit for the benefit of farmers. The UG and PG courses on Animal genetics and Breeding and Bio-statistics courses are offered from the department. Department faculty is also involved in various extension activities like serving as resource person for various training programmes, participate as judge for Livestock shows. The information on different breeds and are displayed in the department. The faculties also publish research articles in journals and popular articles in magazines and newspaper in the areas of Animal genetics and Breeding.
