VETERINARY PHYSIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY
The Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry is one of the basic department of Hassan Veterinary College. The primary mandate of the department is to impart training to undergraduate (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) and post-graduate students in the fields of general, experimental, and specialized areas of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry. Physiology and biochemistry are fundamental to an understanding of modern life science and all students need to study these subjects as major subsidiaries to their main disciplines of Veterinary and Animal science. Department offers courses like Veterinary Physiology (4+1), Veterinary Biochemistry (2+1), for B.V.Sc. & A.H. students as per the guidelines of Veterinary Council India (MSVE 2016). The department is offering post graduate courses from the academic year 2017-2018 as minor/supporting courses to the students majoring in related disciplines.
Department has established under graduate laboratories for Physiology and Biochemistry with sophisticated equipment for hematology, urine analysis, blood biochemical analysis, and molecular biology. It is also equipped with facilities like flame photometer, viscosimeter, chromatography, electrophoresis, spirometer, calorimeter, spectrophotometer, metrological instruments like dry and wet bulb thermometer, mercury monometer, flow meter, etc.
In the field of research, the department is focusing on areas like development of bioactive molecules from donkey’s milk; besides working on establishing physiological and biochemical profile of free ranging donkeys and Hassan breed of sheep. The department is also rendering diagnostic services pertaining to physiological and biochemical parameters to farmers and Veterinary doctors in need.
