LIVESTOCK FARM COMPLEX
The Department of Livestock Farm Complex (LFC) was established in the year 2010 as per the VCI recommendation to cater to the needs of B.V.Sc. & A.H. programme (MSVE 2008 and 2016 Regulations). The department is maintaining different species and breeds of farm animals and poultry for teaching, research and extension purpose besides supplying breeding stock, fodder seeds and root slips to the farmers in this region. The following livestock farms are operational under LFC
- Dairy Unit – A model tail-tail housing system (50 capacity)with crossbred (Jersey and Holstein Friesian) and native (Deoni) cows, buffaloes for teaching, research and extension purposes.
- Sheep and Goat Unit–Conventional and slatted floor housing models (50 capacity each) with local breeds of sheep and goat under semi-intensive system of rearing for teaching, research and extension purposes.
- Piggery Unit– Two modern housing system (60 capacity) established under RKVY Project is maintainingLarge White Yorkshire and Duroc breeds of pigs for teaching, research and extension purposes besides supplying quality piglets to farmers in this region.
- Poultry and Hatchery Unit–Poultry shed constructed scientifically (400 capacity) is maintaining different species/breeds/strains of poultry (Giriraja, Swarnadhara, Native Chicken)for teaching, research and extension purposes. A hatchery unit of 20,000 setting capacity is established under RKVY to supply improved chicks to the farmers in this region.
- Fodder Unit – Cultivating of different varieties of perennial and annual fodder crops plots under irrigation (10 acres) and rain fed (10 acres) to cater the needs of the different livestock farms. Also maintaining fodder museum for teaching and extension proposes.
- Rabbit Unit – Maintaining different rabbit breeds for both teaching and extension purpose.
- Feed Processing unit – Preparing concentrate feed mixture for feeding different species of livestock and poultry maintained.
Besides maintaining and breeding different livestock species, department is regularly conducting training programmes and demonstration for the benefit of farmers on various livestock farming activities like Dairy farming, Piggery farming, Poultry farming, Sheep and Goat farming.
