Department of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology
Department of veterinary surgery & Radiology is concerned with teaching of surgical skills for the treatment of disorders in domestic and wild animals. It has provided extension services by treating the animals and advising the livestock owners about management and prevention of such disorders. Over 17000 livestock have been examined and treated for different surgical conditions. Large number of operations have been performed with high success rate. It has carried out research work related to surgical problems of animals and published over 50 research papers and presented research abstracts in national and International symphosia. Department of surgery and radiology, Bidar has organized one National level Symphosium on surgical conditions of economic importance in farm animals in November 2006. About 240 Scientists and surgeons from all over the country have participated. The Department as organized 5 refresher training programmes of 6 days duration to veterinary officers of Government of Karnataka. The faculty members have participated as resource scientists for various training programmes organized in veterinary college Bidar and at other universities. The faculty members have attended over 100 Animal Health Camps in villages and treated surgical cases affecting farm animals. The faculty have attended over 1000 surgical cases and operations at farmers door step in remote villages and veterinary hospitals, Goshalas, agriculture university campuses in Karnataka. At present department consists of two faculty, one professor and another associate professor. The department offers MVSC, programme in addition to undergraduate courses in veterinary and radiology and thirteen students have completed MVSC, from this department. The department is possessing well designed large animal operation theatre,. pet animal operation theatre and an outpatient ward. X-ray facilities are given free of cost to both farmers and pet owners. To X-Ray Machine of 500 mA and 60 mA capacity are available for disease diagnosis. Laparoscopic surgical equipment is available for diagnosis of pet animal disorders. Department has completed six university sponsored staff research projects and one outside funded project on DNA combination vaccine for animals presented with dog bites.
The faculty of department of surgery and radiology have received 22 awards by scientific bodies and organizations for research publications, presentations in national symposium and for successful surgical service to the farm animals.
