The Department of Livestock Products Technology, Veterinary College, Bidar is active in teaching, research and extension activities of the university. Department offers milk science, meat science, abattoir practices and by products technology courses at under graduate (UG) level along with entrepreneurial training programme on livestock based food products. Department is working to achieve nutritional security and sustainable livestock production through development of value added products, entrepreneurial training, by product utilisation and continuous training. The department is well equipped with all instruments for processing of meat (meat mincer, bowl chopper, brine injector, smoking chamber, slaughter unit, tumbler etc.), milk (pasteurisation unit, paneer hoop, ice cream maker, condenser etc.) and egg into various value added products along with laboratory for testing of raw materials and products for quality and safety. Research priorities of department includes utilization of byproducts for value added products development, development of new and healthier meat and meat products, meat proteomics, unravelling quality changes in meat with a long-term goal to achieve well established self sustaining processing plant which serves as model for all interested in meat processing industry.
