Department of Livestock Farm Complex

  1. The Department is having all livestock and poultry units with well-equipped smart class room and museum for self-learning of students. The Department of LFC is having 6 sanctioned posts of Assistant Professors and One Associate and One Professor and Head. Also, it is having 2 sanctioned posts of field assistants. Presently, the department is headed by Dr. Prashant G Waghmare, Associate Professor and Head with two Assistant Professors, Dr. C. Kotresh Prasad (LPM) and Dr. Vidyasagar (Poultry Science).

    The facilities available at LFC  

    1. Cattle and Buffalo unit:
    The cattle and buffalo unit is having 4 sheds of 60 animal capacity. The unit is also having fodder storage facility for dry fodder. The Deoni, Deoni-HF cross-bred animals and Dharwari buffaloes are maintained.

    2. Sheep and Goat unit:
    The unit is having two separate housing systems for Sheep and goats. The slatted floored elevated housing with a capacity for 50 sheep with open area and cement floored housing system with open area is available for 25 goats is available. The Osmanabadi, Sirohi, Barbari and Bidri goats and Kenguri sheep breed is maintained.

    3. Poultry unit
    The poultry unit is having breeder house for Giriraja birds and it’s having well equipped hatchery unit with a capacity of 15000 eggs. The unit is having separate experimental shed which can accommodate 5000 birds. The unit is having 14 varieties of different birds including Gunea fowl, Turkey, Quails, Geese, Ducks (Khaki Campbell & White Pekin), Aseel, Giriraja, Swarnadhara, Reaja-2, Kakkera, Kadaknath, Broilers and Bovans layers.

    4. Poultry unit
    The institute is having CCSEA permission for conducting experimentation on animals. The lab animal house is having facilities to house rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits. Six breeds of rabbits Viz. California white, Soviet Chinchilla, Grey Giant, Newzealnad white, Flemish Giant, PVNTR Veterinary university variety.

    5. Fodder unit
    A fodder museum with 20 varieties of fodder crops is there for the demonstration of farmers and students. Major crops grown for fodder purpose are Super Napier, Australian red Napier, COFS-31, Hedge lucerne, Multicut Sorghum and Sesbania. The fields are irrigated with different technologies viz. rain pipe irrigation system, sprinkler irrigation system and flood irrigation system to demonstrate to the students.
