Involved in undergraduate and post graduate teaching, research and extension activities with a focus on investigation into deaths of livestock, poultry and wild animals. The services imparted are Necropsy, Histopathology, Biopsy, Cytopathology, Oncology, Clinical pathology etc. Farmer Consultancies regarding disease detection, treatment, control and prevention, and overall management in the face of outbreak is regularly done. Apart from these, wild animal necropsies and disease investigations are being carried out in association with Wildlife Division of Karnataka Forest Department. Trainings are imparted for disease diagnosis by methodical necropsy procedures and microscopy, for the Field Veterinarians and scientific disposal of carcass in the interest of public health and awareness programme regarding zoonotic diseases for the farmers. The Department has carried out research projects on small and large ruminants, wild animals, poultry, diseases of obscure origin in indigenous and exotic cattle etc. and has been extending peripheral support for other departments of the college, Dept. of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services and Dept. of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Karnataka.
