Department of Veterinary Medicine

Department of Veterinary Medicine is one of the major clinical departments in the B.V.Sc & A.H course curriculum. The department is involved in advance diagnosis in different species of animals, epidemiological investigation of various diseases of public health importance and regular treatment at Veterinary College Hospital, Shivamogga and adopted village Sugur, Mahaveer Goshala as a part of ambulatory clinical service.  The department is giving technical assistance to the wildlife division, Shivamogga at Sakrebailu Elephant Camp and Lion Safari, Tavarekoppa. The department is regularly organizing animal health camps, training programmes and other extension activities for the benefit of farmers.

I Semester:

VMD – 411 (2+1), Veterinary Clinical Medicine – I (General and systemic)
VMD – 412 (2+0), Veterinary Preventive Medicine – I (Bacterial, Fungal & Rickettsial diseases)
VMD – 511 (2+0), Animal Welfare, Ethics and Jurisprudence
VMD – 512 (1+1), Zoo/Wild Animal Breeding, Management, Nutrition and Healthcare
VMD – 513 (1+1), Pet/Animal Breeding, Management, Nutrition and Healthcare

II Semester:

VMD – 421 (2+0), Veterinary Clinical Medicine – II (Metabolic and deficiency diseases)
VMD – 422 (2+0), Veterinary Preventive Medicine – II (Viral and Parasitic diseases)

Completed research projects:

  1. Epidemiological investigation of Nematod infestation of Goat in and around, Shivamogga.
  2. Epidemiological investigation of schistosomosis in cattle and buffalos.

On-going research projects:

  1. Studies on bacterial and parasitic enteritis in small ruminants in and around Shivamogga.  PI: Dr. Malatesh.D.S, Assistant Professor.
