As a constituent college of KVAFSU, Bidar, the Veterinary College, Hassan started functioning from the academic year 2007-08. The mandate of the college is teaching, research and extension in the field of veterinary and animal sciences. The primary objective of this college is to produce qualified and competent Veterinarians who could help in increasing livestock productivity in the state, in particular and in the country in general.
The mission of the college is to strive hard to provide leadership in teaching, research and extension education services related to veterinary and animal sciences. The college will keep in pace with the new frontiers of science and contemporary developments which are socially and technically relevant to the society.
The Veterinary college comprises of a sprawling 80 acre campus located within the city limits and is around 3 to 4 kilometers distance from the main railway station and the city central bus station. The campus presently consists of College main building, Hospital complex, Boys and Girls hostels, Sports complex, Livestock farms, Residential quarters for staff and a Guest house.
College has well equipped lecture halls with facilities of audio-visual systems. Top quality laboratories have been created with latest need based modern equipments as stipulated by Veterinary council of India, New Delhi, for practical training of students in each subject/discipline. The college hospital has ultra-modern facilities for treatment of large, small and wild animals, with in-patient facilities. Ambulatory clinical services are extended to the nearby villages in service to the farming community.
Efforts are made in making Veterinary College at Hassan as a Centre of Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension, as well as in Human Resource Development.
